5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Have you ever been hit with a "5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me" blog tag?

The premise is this... a person writes a "5 things you didn't know about me" blog post. At the end of the post/bottom of the post -- they call out the person they've decided to tag. The person they've decided to tag does the same; writes a "5 things you didn't know about me" blog post, mentioning the person they're tagging.

Part of an on-going catering, party planner (event planner, wedding planner), food and beverage related blog tag -- here are the 5 things that you don't know about me:

1. I qualified to join SAG/AFTRA* in 1989, getting hired for a national K-Mart commercial - narrowly missing the opportunity a year earlier, when I had my very first audition ever... for a cocktail waitress part in the movie, "Collision Course" (a video release) starring Jay Leno and Pat Morita.

Keisuke Miyagi
Pat Morita

Thanks to the late Pat Morita (of "Karate Kid" feature film fame); he asked that I be called in to audition for director Lewis Teague with Jay Leno, now the host of the late night television show, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno". I was a "fresh face", totally new and "green" to show business things. I had no idea what I was doing. But I greatly appreciated being given the shot.

2. When I was 17, I was told by a "psychic" that I should have been guided and nurtured into show business at an earlier age. I choreographed dance in high school and sang at weddings after I graduated. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the necessary support. My brother died when I was 16. My parents divorced the next year. It was an awkward time.
3. When I was 9, I danced in my elementary school talent show. I started dancing when I was 4 years old and began taking formal dance lessons when I was 9. I was a "quick study" dancing with girls twice my age. Dancing was as natural as walking for me.

First car. I was crazy. Never drove it. Dad sold it.
 4. I refused to drive until I was 19. All of my friends had cars and they'd pick me up. I never took "Driver's Ed." (Driver's Education) classes and still haven't taken formal driving classes, although I drive legally everyday.

5. I was born with pretty much everyone expecting my mother would deliver a "boy". My brother (only sibling, now deceased) chose my name "Carlo" and not "Carla", with high hopes of having a little brother. To this day, I have to tell people my name, politely explaining to them, It's Carlo... like the place, Monte Carlo. Not Carla.

Now it’s my turn to tag, and I'm tagging one of the few really awesome Chef/food bloggers I know, Chef Dennis of AskChefDennis.com (one of my Google+ friends). Go get ‘em, Chef!

I do this... I write to help create opportunities for all of you who desire to pursue your passion to have parties without so much regard to economic constraints.

I think if we keep talking about the cost of parties (I blog, you write comments), together, maybe we can break down some of the party industry price barriers and shame some of the people who've taken your money and delivered a poor quality product right into growing a conscious and treating you right (nice thought, isn't it?).

Opportunities to be inspired about parties are everywhere. Yet, people looking out for your wallet are few and far between. My goal is to inspire you, causing you to question the way things are that have been the status quo for too long. When we stand together and speak up, we can be a powerful force.

Let's keep the conversation of change going. Because in the sea of everyone talking, one voice is a whisper... several voices are a scream.

Leave a comment and share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions below. Remember to be as specific as possible because what you have to say helps us all.

I really love you guys. There, I said it.

Always... be encouraged and be encouraging to others too,

Don't be ashamed to need help. Like a soldier storming a wall, you have a mission to accomplish. And if you've been wounded and you need a comrade to pull you up? So what?” - Marcus Aurelius

I'm Carlo. And this is my party truth.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.

I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.

It's cool of you to stop by. And you know what's even better? Finding out what you have to say! Hit me up with a comment. Hang with me on Twitter . Or, connect with me using the FB gadget or G+ button on the sidebar. For real, I'd be really honored if you'd stop and give me a moment of your time - by clicking on either one. If you want to ask me anything or want to leave a comment, you know the drill; "Contact".

I like people. Especially, people who want the party truth. Talk to me.
