Party Planning: Small and Large Events Face Off

Spa Treatment at Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort ...

Instead of planning the standard party, a high-style version - incorporating everything that you love - should be the major part of your next party.

Comfortable sofas, delicious bite size appetizers and the freshest and best flowers available are attractive, but let's be honest - what makes a party is it's energy. While there's no denying the appeal of a great party, these days some of the best parties are small, inexpensive, and are held at home.

In fact, the best parties are fun, yet relaxing. The whole party experience should be kind of like a spa "treatment".

Unlike large corporate special events, luxury events and parties, which have little to do with anything relaxing (which certainly differentiates them from smaller soirees), smaller events and parties are genuinely effective for the budget-minded party host. They're also where you'll get the benefit of having a better chance to talk to your guests.

While there's plenty of crossover between small gatherings and large-size events, today's party hosts are less likely to be swayed toward going larger. They're also less likely to host more than one party per year.

Most notably, though, people who are known to host small parties aren't - or shouldn't be - as concerned as those hosting large parties about spending a lot of money on their food and beverage budget. The type of cuisine you serve, for one, can be strategically planned to suit not only the needs of your budget, but your party's theme as well.

The general consensus would probably be that most of us love the spa treatment. And, most of us love a good party. What I notice is that the no frills party environment suits a certain type of personality. But, if you don't mind not pampering your guests, as the host - just do what needs to be done and let your guests get their party on.

I'm Carlo. And this is my party truth.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.

I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.

It's cool of you to stop by. And you know what's even better? Finding out what you have to say! Hit me up with a comment. Hang with me on Twitter (three accounts, you choose; @TheCaterHater, @CarloAtYourServ, or @CarloAtYourSer2). Or, connect with me using the FB gadget or G+ button on the sidebar. For real, I'd be honored if you'd click on either one. If you want to ask me anything or want to leave a comment, you know the drill; "Contact".

I like people. Especially, people who want the party truth. Talk to me.
