Are you ever teased for having what you think is gorgeous decor that's really borderline tacky? Are you still serving 1950's style deviled eggs as a party appetizer?
The great style icon of fashion, Coco Chanel, promoted getting ready, then taking one thing off. Agreed. Because less is more.
Party regulations
1. Go with your own instinctive, distinctive style - Don't just go with whatever's popular. You know what you like. Although imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, what works for someone else may not be right for you.
2. Choose boldly - Be brave. Be a style maverick and blaze your own trail. Bold choices call for bold actions. Create your own new way of styling decor (use something unique as a prop, for example) and introduce your guests to a few new food recipes.
Choosing boldly may create controversy, but as long as it looks and tastes good - let 'em talk.
3. Less really is more - Don't douse your party. Apply statement pieces to key places - like at the focal point of the room. Menu-wise, offering too many food choices is expensive and makes for more work, Keep it simple, and tasty.
4. Keep it classy - This pretty much speaks for itself. Classic clean lines and simple delicious cuisine never goes out of style. Don't complicate things.
