The smart ones are cutting it short by adding your name to their party short list when it comes to having a party.
Aren't you tired of spending money (and charging it to your credit cards) on things like parties that you can't really afford? Everyone is.
Consequently, the trend is to create a party short list; have smaller parties, inviting fewer guests. Or, to invite the same large number of people that you used to - as before our Great Recession - to a party or special event with a shorter time line.
Depending on where you started, a shorter party can mean anything from 3 hours to 5 or 6 hours. The only things that factor into your decision to go shorter should be your money (think of the money you'll save on food and drinks) and your time.
Anyone can host a shorter party. It's a question of, Can you entertain in a shorter time span, accomplishing all of your celebratory goals for doing so, and do it well?
If your answer is "no" or "maybe", call in the party professionals. The really good ones are experts at putting together all sorts of parties - long, short, wedding receptions, baby showers, anniversaries, you name it.
If the idea of having a shorter party intimidates you because you don't think you can pull it off or because you're worried about what people will think, try this - end you next party one hour earlier than "normal". And from there, if you want your next party to be even shorter, continue to cut back your party time lines in one hour stages. And if you're considering going to the extreme by inviting fewer people to your next party with a shorter time line, if you're known as the one who comes late and leaves early, you're definitely ready to introduce your new party-style to others.
Party on. Just keep it short.
