Being the caterer or event planner at the party, I'm often busy getting things done and can avoid getting my picture taken. But when you're a guest, you might not be so lucky.
Here's how to look good in party pictures:
Primp a little
Wearing makeup when you're getting your picture taken usually improves the way you look, significantly. Just don't be too heavy-handed, putting on too much. A matte finish is best. The flash reflects oil and moisture when translates to an unkempt look.Go for style
Solid colors photograph best. Lots of jewelry and bold patterns are too distracting. If you're going to a luxury event where most people will wear black, wear red. Red will make you stand out, popping right out of the frame.Find your light
For pictures, the most flattering light is indirect and soft. Avoid standing near harshly lit areas.Get in, close
Did you ever see a picture where what was shot looks stretched? It was probably taken with a point-and-shoot camera (that has a lens with a slightly wide-angle), by someone standing too close. When someone is taking a close-up, it's best to stand back and use the zoom.Pose baby, pose
Never face the camera dead on. Stand at an angle with your ankles together, with one hand (or both hands) on your hip(s). When you stand this way, your hips will look smaller, and your waistline should look better because your shoulders and elbows are more triangular.Image source: e³°°°
