A Good Party Planner is a Great Party Groomer

Anyone with a passing interest in parties and celebrities, fame, and money has to figure that Preston Bailey and Colin Cowie aren't the only ones who work with people living the Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous.

There are lesser known style-making counterparts throughout the country - in case you've wondered who helps the rest of the high-net worth crowd. But you'd be hard-pressed to find some of these party pros gushing about it.

In fact, we do exist. But other than that, I'll just say... Being low-key and focused on client secrecy is of the utmost important.

What I can tell you is that affluent clients often require a team of many, but usually rely on one person, a jack-of-all-trades who serve as their go-to, go between. They deal with destination travel agents (if clients don't have their own plane), rental companies, florists, talent (musicians, singers, comedians, etc.), photographers, videographers, and specialty vendors, just to name a few.

It's all about good party planning, which is really nothing more than great party grooming - cleaning up the details, polishing the final results.

A lot of assistance goes into thinking about the little things when it comes to their party celebrations, especially in regard to whatever party planning/event planning niche you fill. Clients usually like us to be on hand to attend all of the meetings and tastings pertaining to their event, and to ultimately serve as the key consultant on their party's overall look.

It's very important to stay focused on the clients taste and style, which are their trademarks.

Changes to how their image is portrayed; how it transfers and relates to their party, have to be weighed carefully. Their party should look like their party and not a contrived version of what someone else thinks that they want.

Just because they don't throw parties everyday doesn't mean they're not interested in the process. And it's not wise to get caught up, being high and mighty about their party, even if they give you carte blanche to make their final decisions. Vendors and others that you have to deal with will think that you've gone off your rocker and hate to see you coming. So not cool.

Having a calm demeanor is a big plus. And, no matter what the clients financial status is, making your client feel safe (by not freaking out) will help you a lot, which can take you a long way.

Of course you want the look of your work to kick up their party a notch. Your goal is to give your client of means a more formal look - even if it's casual. When it's casual, make it classy casual. Subtle changes, here and there, can be very effective.

Aside from having what it takes to turn something not so eventful into polished and exciting, to an extent you have to hang with your clients (if you're invited to do so) and keep your mouth shut about it if you do. Naturally, it's good to be comfortable with clients - but not so much as to say anything personally about them to anyone.

What you'll sometimes find out is that repeat customers sometimes really do become friends, which helps. You do things right, and you'll have it good. Clients will see that you're loyal and discreet, and good with handling their parties and like me, you'll do what you love - help clients have wonderful parties.

I'm Carlo. And this is my party truth.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.

I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.

It's cool of you to stop by. And you know what's even better? Finding out what you have to say! Hit me up with a comment. Hang with me on Twitter (three accounts, you choose; @TheCaterHater, @CarloAtYourServ, or @CarloAtYourSer2). Or, connect with me using the FB gadget or G+ button on the sidebar. For real, I'd be honored if you'd click on either one. If you want to ask me anything or want to leave a comment, you know the drill; "Contact".

I like people. Especially, people who want the party truth. Talk to me.
