Planning your Honeymoon

Bye Luxembourg!

No matter where the two of you decide to go for your honeymoon, here's valuable advice that will help to make your trip hassle-free. To ensure that you have a trip minus unnecessary stress, I've given you some tips so that you'll enjoy yourselves and have as relaxing exciting of a time as you intend your honeymoon to be.

Decide on a budget

Add in airfare, ground transportation costs, hotel, food, activities and spending money. You may prefer to book an all-inclusive package versus a pay-as-you-go honeymoon.

Use a travel agent

Why? Because they have real experience in planning romantic excursions and have oftentimes visited the places they suggest. Another reason to use a travel agent is because their help gives you one less thing to have to attend to. You can use the time to focus on other things, all the other other details of your wedding, for example.

If you don't want to use a travel agent and want to plan your honeymoon yourself - especially if you don't want to pay all of the added travel fees - consider booking your trip through YTB.

What do you do when you get to your destination?

You'll more than likely have water sports, hiking, mountain climbing, history and culture, or just relaxing on chaise lounge chairs as activities to choose from. Plan it in advance. Or plan it as you go along. Whatever you decide, enjoy yourselves!

Pick one travel destination

I you're not gypsy-types that like to travel, choosing just one destination will be more relaxing for you. This gives you the chance to do everything (or absolutely nothing) that's available to you.

Plan early

The earlier you book your honeymoon trip, the better. For starters, booking early ensures availability and should save you some money too. You'll also have more options to choose from when you book your honeymoon in advance.

Travel tips

You just gone through however much stress it took to get your wedding and wedding reception planned and organized, and over with with. Because of all that you've had going on, you might deem travel on the same day as your wedding to be too much and too stressful. Stay in a hotel the evening of your wedding day (get pampered, have massages and pedicures), and leave for your honeymoon destination the next day. You may also want to add an extra day (at home) to enjoy each other after you return. A day of re-adjustment to the real world might help you both, a lot.

Packing

Whether you're packing for a destination wedding or packing for your honeymoon getaway, do your research. Do research to find out the climate of your honeymoon destination and prepare yourselves for all possible weather conditions. Doing so will help you decide exactly what and how much to pack. Versatile and interchangeable clothing are the best choice.

Luggage

Are you concerned about your airline carrier losing your luggage? Unless you've booked a private plane, what's en vogue (or the latest thing) for transporting luggage to a travel destination is shipping it ahead of schedule via FedEx or UPS. This is the best option for the serious fashionista that travels with mega-amounts of luggage.

Depending on how much luggage you travel with, shipping it ahead of your actual departure date might save you money. If you work late and can't make it to a shipping company during normal business hours, check FedEx Kinko's for a 24-hour location. Pack a carry-on bag in addition to your other luggage. If there are any glitches, at least you'll have some clothing to hold you over. Keep your valuables, medicine, identification and toiletries in your carry-on bag. Prescriptions should be kept in their original containers.

Tell a family member

Sure, your honeymoon might be a secret escape for you and your life partner, but you should inform a family member of your travel plans in case you need to be reached. Leave copies of your airline tickets, traveler's cheques and passports, hotel information, and your itinerary. Making copies of your passports and traveler's cheques will make them easier to replace in the event you lose them.

Your "essentials" checklist

Here's the list: Airline tickets, traveler's cheques, passports and identification. A driver's license is a universally accepted form of I.D.. Be sure to take a major credit card in case of an emergency. And make a list of your traveler's cheques and credit cards and keep it in a safe place.

Jet lag

If you're honeymooning in a far away location, avoid excessive amounts of caffeinated and alcoholic beverages before and during your flight. Most people don't realize that these beverages will make you feel tired when you arrive at your destination. Drink plenty of water to prevent jet lag, nausea and dizziness.

Destination wedding ceremonies

If your wedding ceremony is taking place abroad, check on the legal residency requirements beforehand. You may have to arrive a few days before your ceremony to meet the necessary requirements.

If you'd like a culturally authentic and informative honeymoon experience, check to find out if there is a People-To-People program in the place that you're visiting. The program links visitors with hospitable people who allow you to partake in a variety of activities with local residents; from sightseeing to water sports, to learning how to cook the food of their culture.

I hope this advice helps to make your honeymoon and the start of your new life together better than ever. Congratulations and best wishes!

I'm Carlo. And this is my party truth.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.

I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.

It's cool of you to stop by. And you know what's even better? Finding out what you have to say! Hit me up with a comment. Hang with me on Twitter (three accounts, you choose; @TheCaterHater, @CarloAtYourServ, or @CarloAtYourSer2). Or, connect with me using the FB gadget or G+ button on the sidebar. For real, I'd be honored if you'd click on either one. If you want to ask me anything or want to leave a comment, you know the drill; "Contact".

I like people. Especially, people who want the party truth. Talk to me.
