Party Planning Decor is a Plaid Reality

Several plaid patterns on modern day uniforms

When it comes to party planning decor, don't forget that plaid is always "in". Because using plaid doesn't have to mean boring or obsolete, or dingy.

Plaid history

Plaids were originally woven and worn by Scottish clans as a way to identify themselves. In the last century, plaids were adopted by aristocrats as their weekend staple. Eventually, plaids were incorporated into the American fiber of "fashion", spun outward into home decor fashion - becoming plaid bedding and linens, plaid curtains and draperies, and plaid wallpaper, too, just to name a few.

In the States, plaids began with humble beginnings - primarily produced as work shirts for the Pendleton company, starting around 1924. In the 30's and 40's, plaid continued to be used - to make fitted shirts for women, and broad-shouldered jackets for both, women and men.

Since then, plaids come and plaids go. But from Black watch plaid to Glen plaid to buffalo plaid to tartan plaid - plaids will never go out of style. Plaids might go away at times, but not for long. Because plaids are excellent to pair with paisleys, floral, and other complimentary repetitive patterns within the same or a complimentary color scheme.

Party Planning Decor is a Plaid Reality

Plaid is rough and tumble. Plaid is feminine flirty.

Plaid is the fabric underdog. And it's unfortunate that plaid is rarely the featured choice for party planning decor themes.

Youthful and sporty, when themed carefully - plaid can be one of the most fun and elegant choice of fabrics around.

Plaid is no longer "grunge". It's elegant.
Festive plaid grew up.

A plaid background will position a party location space into a mature and exceptionally beautiful environment like no other textile pattern can. With options like plaid silk and plaid ribbon,
plaid fabric, especially Scottish plaids, make you think of Katherine Hepburn - as portrayed in Marty Scorsese's film, The Aviator , but in a room - instead.

If you like Nirvana and like a lot of other people, miss Kurt Cobain - who in many ways was a musical poet and visionary - remember that he helped to further the position of plaid - by making the choice to wear old, faded plaid flannel shirts. Flannel plaid hit popularity and took instant "grunge" flight. It sent a message of cultural diaspora that at the time resonated with a bunch of people.

"Grunge" is over. But plaid still rules.

When it comes to party planning decor, plaid patterns of pink plaid wallpaper with plaid draperies or curtains won't suit every clients desires and needs, but it's wise to keep plaid in the mix.

Give plaid strong consideration - because whether you've thought about it before or not - the fact remains that party planning decor is a plaid reality, for real.

I'm Carlo. And this is my party truth.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.

I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.

It's cool of you to stop by. And you know what's even better? Finding out what you have to say! Hit me up with a comment. Hang with me on Twitter (three accounts, you choose; @TheCaterHater, @CarloAtYourServ, or @CarloAtYourSer2). Or, connect with me using the FB gadget or G+ button on the sidebar. For real, I'd be honored if you'd click on either one. If you want to ask me anything or want to leave a comment, you know the drill; "Contact".

I like people. Especially, people who want the party truth. Talk to me.
