Party bones are kind of like sea legs; one gives you the ability to not become seasick (or not become embarrassed because you've had an awful party): the other one gives you the bones or the "legs" that your parties need that are the essential staples that go with any party that you plan.Party bones never go out of style, and can add enduring chic-ability to your parties.
Party bones are the building blocks of your parties successes, whereby your party is the blank canvas and the "bones" are the layers that you add, that are what you decide to be your party's decorative outcome or signature style.
Party bones are dependable. Party bones are usually unremarkable and sometimes not very pretty, but actually do work and do the work (or get the job done). Not every party bone is supposed to be remarkable. And the ones that aren't are just supposed to be reliable.
Good party bones transcend time and trends. They can go from a daytime event to a nighttime party, season to season, and if treated with care - can still be used five years from now, or longer.
Good party bones work equally well in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Washington D.C., and in small-town anywhere, USA.
Party Bones: The chair and table
These are the ultimate party bones. I mean, you can't normally have a party without having seating and somewhere to put the food. The chair and table are bare bones basic and simple. If you're entertaining and don't already have them or if what you do have isn't functional or comfortable within your proposed party space, your party bone foundation will certainly be askew. Time to rethink your party bone party supplies.
The "right" chair bones with the "right" table bones, even if they're pared down basics, can look effortlessly stylish - if what you were shooting for is "basic", with no decor budget. If they're basic rental items, in their "basic sophistication", they can look endlessly elegant to you - and having them beats having nothing.
Party Bones: The linens
The linens are your "classics bones" and a large key to the personality of your party's style. The linens are key classic bone staples, like blue jeans. The linens can take your party from over-the-top wild and glitzy to chic and simple.
The linens can be paired with anything. They are pure party bone practicality. The linens are useful party bones for covering up a tattered table or playing a major role in a complete room transformation - deflecting your eye from a bad venue to gorgeous tablescapes of food. The linens "done right" are practical and unpretentious party bones, fitting in perfectly, no matter what party statement you desire to make.
Party Bones: The floral
In all kinds of settings and for any kind of occasion, the floral are the party bones that make you feel instantly luxe. The floral, at bare minimum, are a perfect party bone with anything; on a powder room counter top, outside on a picnic table, or as the "grand duchess" room focal point sitting center stage in a room.
As a key party bone, the floral make a party incredibly sexy. The floral party bones of your event are perfect when paired with most everything - linens, tables and chairs, etcetera. The most alluring part about the floral is that they can dress anything up and make even the most uptight event look relaxed.
Party Bones: The china and flatware
This is a party bone that's always just "there" and often taken for granted. Yet, there's something about the party bones of your china and flatware that gives your party an aura of instant style. Classic party bones, like your china and flatware, serve an obvious purpose and work in any kind of party environment. Whether you choose "the good stuff' (sterling silver) or plastic disposables, the best part about these party bones is, in their practicality - the style that displays a form of "party bone mystique" that's similar to sunglasses on a movie star. The china and flatware party bones tell the story of "what's really going on" and define a major directive that states your party's people user-friendliness within your party environment.
Party Bones: The platters, bowls, and utensils, etcetera - the tablescape classics
Tablescape classic-type party bones tend to change according to trends, but are basic party bone timeless. They not only make a statement, but provide the necessary means to an end that showcase the star of the party's show, the food.
Tablescape classics are a great item to "borrow" from a friend, co-worker, family member, or neighbor. You can't go wrong here, unless you don't have them. They're party bones that are: necessary and perfect, casual or dressy, winter or summer, embellished or not. Faux goldtoned tablescape classic party bones are fine, if the style permits within the structure of your party.
Party Bones: The culinary righteousness
Even if you think you've mastered everything else, you have not done so if you haven't gotten this party bone "right". Delicious cuisine - out of all of your best party bones, you get this one wrong and your results will be tragic. For the party professional, the insurance hike that can go with this party bone "problem-gone-wrong " can damper your overall budget.
Party Bones: The overall party bone-ality of it
I am a big supporter of leaving bold and outrageous magical memories. Leaving lasting impressions, I also think that - starting with classic and subdued (so that you can eventually venture into the times of going "fierce") will allow you to rely on those times when a purple, orange and gold disco-chic party tent space won't do. While wild, bright prints of the 1970's might make a great Friday evening (going into the wee hours) cocktail soiree/disco dance party blossom even brighter, too much of a good thing is called "overload".
You can't depend on all of that disco, like you can depend on classic and subdued. Sure, the disco dance party room will get a lot more attention, but going classic and subdued will let the other party bones in the room come to life and show your moxie for the understated.
Party Bones: The gorgeous lighting
The lighting, like everything else, is a great place to have fun and play with colors, shapes and of course, gobos. But, just as with the chairs and tables (that should be exactly where you need them), you should have at least one classic, well-lit area or one classic light fixture strategically placed - that will take event sexiness to a whole 'nutha level.
Party Bones: Every party should have...
- Entrance and exit guest walk-way areas, well lit for guest safety
- Food display tables and guest dining tables lit with electrical lighting and/or candles
- Powder room, well lit makeup/grooming areas
- Behind the scene work areas should be extremely well lit to insure safety of workers
These items are unbelievably chic in their simplicity. They can be found at rental companies to yard sales at crazy, phenomenal prices but also at crazy, affordable prices. A good planner and caterer knows that cost does matter here. It matters is that you buy party bone classics, getting as good a deal as possible. Although this is not where your party bone drama is going to come from - this is your basic, "white canvas". The drama comes next; afterward.
Commanding and capturing attention as a party planner and/or caterer, you'll find that the allure is in choosing the best party bones.
Whether you're planning a birthday or anniversary party, a tea party, a summertime pool party, a political party, an engagement party or a wedding reception, a frat party or college party, a Halloween party, a Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade party, a Super Bowl party, or a company Christmas or holiday party, or go as far as having a watch the Oprah Show party - you definitely need good party bones.
Party bones serve the role of not only party necessity and practical usefulness, but display a chosen style that depicts a refreshing version of a party's fullest and best potential, which is ultimately, usually, the planners personal style.
