The Best Spiked Punch Recipe Ever!

If you never thought about it, let me tell you - spiked punch is a very cost-effective party beverage option.

Because of the recession, it's making a comeback
and it's "in" again!

Check this out.

People who really, really know me know there's one thing I will never do - and that's drink anything with gin in it.
The aroma of gin is a big turn off for me.
And I don't care for the taste of it, either.

But get this.

I found this gin-based punch recipe that's really, really good!

It's called Gin Dandy Punch.

It seriously is the best spiked punch recipe ever!
So never say never, right?

Here's what happened...

I was doing research on pomegranate juice spiked punch recipes, when I stumbled upon this recipe - again, never expecting to like it - that has gin in it.

Was I ever surprised!

You'd never guess that I'm a "beverage junkie" and caterer who keeps a well stocked bar because I'm not a big drinker. I mean, sure - I'll try the spiked punch if I go to a party and it's being served. But it's definitely not my first choice.

I should tell you right now that because I'm skeptical of any type of drink with gin it, when I made it I changed the original recipe.

I'll give you the original recipe, then I'll tell you how I altered it for a non-gin drinker like me.

Everything stays exactly the same, except the pomegranate and gin measurements.

Oh I almost forgot to tell you...
I made the original version and it's not bad either, by the way.

Here's the original recipe:

Gin Dandy Punch

(Printable Recipe)

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup
plus 1 tbsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 - 1/2 cups pomegranate liqueur
1 - 1/2 cups gin
2 lemons, cut into wedges

In a saucepan, bring sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil over high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves (this is known as "simple syrup"). Let mixture cool, then pour over ice in a large pitcher. Stir in lemon juice, liqueur, and gin. Ladle into glasses garnished with lemon wedges.

My recipe (altered for "gin skeptics") is:

1 - 3/4 cups pomegranate juice
1 - 1/4 cups gin

Jazz it up a little if you want to.
Add maraschino cherries (and the cherry juice and pomegranate seeds, too) to it!

This spiked fruit punch would be a terrific spiked wedding punch. It would go over real good as a bridal shower spiked punch recipe too. And it would be a different type of holiday spiked punch to serve as well.

Try it out. Then let me know what you and your guests think.

I'm Carlo. And this is my party truth.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.

I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.
