From flowers to lighting, to photos to videos, I've included more ideas for you to use that will work perfectly to make your party amazing.
Sustainable flower power!
You can show that you care about the earth in many ways, yet whether you choose to show it in a large or small way - what's most important is that you choose to do something.
A good way to make your flower arrangements earth-friendly is to pass on using floral foam. Unfortunately, it's not reusable, biodegradable or recyclable. Ask your florist to use curly willow branches to anchor the flowers in your arrangements. It's beautiful and looks great in a clear vase, it's natural and of course it's eco-friendly.
You probably hadn't thought of this one... Use orchids in your floral arrangements to save money! Orchids are beautiful, come in a variety of colors and shapes and they last longer. There are more than 30 different varieties to choose from - including some of the exotic types that come from as far away as New Zealand and France, so allow enough time for your order to arrive.
Bright and white!
Producing mostly tented, off-premise parties - naturally, for our evening events we've needed ample lighting. Tents are typically white or clear, and look fantastic when the white theme remains dominate throughout - from white cords and equipment coverings, to white instrument casings. Ask your lighting provider to use everything (or as much as they can) in white. White is a great option for an event space with low ceilings. It diminishes the presence of the equipment, making the space appear brighter and making the ceiling appear higher.
Let the fun begin!
Make your party amazing - skip the photographer (if you care to), and rent a photo booth, instead. Your guests will have fun cramming into the booth, striking their poses and leaving with their photos. I recommend renting a booth that will take four shots, five seconds apart and print pictures in 15 seconds - don't keep your guests waiting!
Videos on a whole 'nutha level!
I love doing something different and most clients love to be different, too. Make your party amazing with an amazing video presentation. Ask your video techie guys to use a Martin Media Server. It's the coolest! It allows you to take a live video image and morph it into different shapes and colors. And, you can type directly on it, add a company logo, add scrolling graphics and you can make it tumble in or spin. The real cool thing about "going Martin" is, using it's effect cuts out studio time - you can add graphics in real-time.
Invitations done e-xcellently!
Invitations made electronically can be unique and classy if you contact Class Act Creative and have them help you out. They do a great job branding events - be it special wedding reception logos or your own corporate event logo. They'll even incorporate Flash marketing and link it to a registration website. Electronic invitations are the way to go if you want to send your invitations in an earth-friendly way.
Incorporate a "conversation pit"
Large parties with music can sometimes get pretty loud. If you plan a "conversation pit" area, your guests will have somewhere comfy-cozy to sit and chat, where a noise won't be an issue. At parties that I've planned, I've set strategic talking areas with groups of sofas. You could also dress up a backyard picnic table or use your lawn furniture as your "conversation pit" area, or even use bench seating. Whatever you do, make it a quiet, conversation area for your guests to go to talk.
Drape it, add style and look great!
Save money. Avoid paying room rental fees - host your event at home and add cost-effective drama and effect by staging a room using drapery. Add large, potted palm plants and Boston ferns, creative lighting and you've transformed a room from drab to chic in a matter of seconds. We've recreated rooms this way many times, and in home environment spaces adding these elements can look so fantastic that a client, often jokingly, will ask if the transformation can stay there, permanently. It's a cost effective way to completely change a room because you only pay for the drapery that you use. You'd be surprised at what a little fabric and a few plants, with great lighting can do!
Tell me... What are your favorite flowers and floral tricks? Did you ever hide an undesirable area using draping?
Some of the Cater-Hater upcoming posts will likely reflect party ideas, Texas-style. We're excited! Soon Cater-Hater and Carlo At Your Service Productions will be coming at you live from the Houston area, where we'll open a second location.

I'm an off-premise catering evangelist/outlaw. I'm a passionista. I'm a paradox. I love when a client hires me to oversee their entire event, from start to finish - because I'm an event planner too.
I'm proud to be mom to Petey Wheatstraw, "the devil's son-in-law" - the best damn Chihuahua North of Mexico. I grew up in Rochester, Michigan. I currently live deep in the heart of Texas. And boy, do I ever miss Xochimilco Super Nachos, the fragrance of Fall and fresh cider and donuts at Paint Creek Cider Mill, and eating a Detroit Lafayette Coney Island when the mood hits me.
It's cool of you to stop by. And you know what's even better? Finding out what you have to say! Hit me up with a comment. Hang with me on Twitter (three accounts, you choose; @TheCaterHater, @CarloAtYourServ, or @CarloAtYourSer2). Or, connect with me using the FB gadget or G+ button on the sidebar. For real, I'd be honored if you'd click on either one.
If you want to ask me anything or want to leave a comment, you know the drill; "Contact".
I like people. Especially, people who want the party truth. Talk to me.
