It's been apparent for some time now that there are caterers and event planners that aren't willing to work with you, financially. When wedding reception prices are such that you have to save up for your celebration, you know it's bad. Unfortunately for you, there are "stick in the mud", die-hard caterers and event planners out there who just aren't going to give you a deal. So, you might have to knock on quite a few doors in order to find a caterer or event planner that will be sensitive to your economic needs. Some of these business owners won't budge because they're listening to the "powers that be", who tell them that consumers believe that businesses that offer deep discounts are a losing proposition.
People believe that their perceptions are their reality.
Case in point, Chrysler, Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Their perception, through their rose colored glasses, was that they were untouchable and successful. They were successful. They were successfully shoving their substandard, energy inefficient products down our consumer throats. Clearly, the "Big Three" were in denial. If they didn't know it, they know it now - as Washington has told them, we're not giving you any money unless you get it together. That, or go out of business.
The aforementioned caterer and event planner hysteria is like a bad "trick"; that if they're not careful, will have them (caterer and event planner business owners) continuing to follow the status quo - charging you pre-recession prices while you struggle to make your way through a tanked economy. You need a caterer or event planner who will help you that is ultra-sensitive to your economic needs. Whether some party industry insiders realize it or not, they need you, too. They need your "help" that will cause their businesses to remain open and stay viable. Caterers and event planners that have been duped into thinking that their pre-recession prices are satisfactory, during an economically negative ridden climate. seem to be wearing rose colored glasses, too. Business as usual won't suffice. It's amazing how easy it can be to deceive people. It's also amazing how big business hasn't wanted things to change. It's sad too, that some in the party industry don't seem willing to change. Because economically, things certainly have changed. Yet, it appears that "they" want to keep what has clearly changed the same and that "they" don't want to wrap their minds around the fact that when the is recession is over, you - the almighty consumer - will never spend your money the same way again. As it is, consumers aren't spending money on much, past the essentials. Consumers that are doing all that they can to pay down credit card bills and those facing home foreclosure, are proof positive that many will be cautious about what they spend their money on and who they spend their money with. Caterers and event planners stonewalling, will signal the demise that will eventually cause them to price themselves right out of business.
As a consumer that continues to find oneself faced with pre-recession pricing, you could decide to take the option of producing your own parties, thus saving yourself a substantial amount of money. Smart caterers and event planners will make necessary pricing adjustments to not lose out.
Everyone knows that polls have historically been known to be inaccurate. Check out this example of the poor business model that cites a kind of rhetoric that serves as a type of "warning" to business owners, about supposed consumer negatives perceived when business owners offer discounted prices; Deep Discounts During Recession Can Damage Brands.
Things have economically changed and will never be the same again.
You already know this.
You're the consumers writing the next chapter on consumer spending.
